The iPhone 5 shipped with a flaw?!

Helloooooo! Oh God, It's been almost two months since I last posted....!! I know it sounds like I'm making excuses when I say I've been busy, but I honestly have! Moving, job applications, three hour job interviews (an addiction to an iPhone/iPad game called Hay Day - definitely recommended!) .... I've been so busy I only managed to catch up on music earlier this week! Anyway enough with the BS, on with the post!

Earlier this week Apple released an update to its iOS software, coming in the form of iOS 6.0.1. Usually these minor updates don't contain anything interesting & are just bug fixes - iOS 4.0.1 was released to 'fix' the bad reception issue that plagued the iPhone 4 (to no avail, by the way.) This update has a particularly interesting twist, however.

Upon going into Settings -> General -> Software Update on my iPhone 5, I came across this screen.

It turns out that somehow Apple managed to ship millions of iPhone 5's without an application in the version of iOS 6 to install updates Over The Air (OTA). The process is relatively simple and I took screenshots for every step of the out of the ordinary update process. (If the text on the screenshot is too small to read in the 8th image I'll paste it at the end of the post.)

(At this point, you can't do anything with the iPhone except click on the OK button, when you are taken back into the Settings app.)

At this point, my iPhone restarted and went through the standard update process. I did the same thing with my iPad & everything ran smoothly & it didn't need to install the 'iOS Updater' app so it was only a problem with the iPhone 5 and not iOS 6 as a whole.

That's all! Nothing particularly interesting. I'd just like to take the time to thank everybody who reads my blog, even though I only post sporadically. I'm approaching a landmark in my pageviews, and once I get there I'm going to start posting links to my blog on Facebook, so that should motivate me to post a bit more often. It's crazy I've got so far and only post on Twitter!! The power of the hashtag is not to be doubted :)

Have a great weekend & thank you for reading!!

AB x
